Since its launch in 2014 the Health Research Institute has established a strong brand and attracted a portfolio of multi-disciplinary research that extends beyond traditional medical approaches to reflect a broader multi-agency view of healthcare. This underpins its overall mission to facilitate and enable collaborative research across a range of academic perspectives with external stakeholders in the NHS, social care, charities and other health-related organisations.
The institute aims to:
- Lead innovation in professional practice;
- Develop applied research to drive evidence-informed care;
- Provide a partnership forum for enterprise and innovation
The Institute benefits from strong collaborative research relationships with NHS, private and public sector organisations across the North West Coast region and beyond. Our work is driven by a shared mission to grow locally led health research by combining clinical, academic and other perspectives to attract external funding. Funded work to date includes a range of National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) awards and work commissioned by Health Education England.
The Institute serves as an enabling platform for the following Research Themes:
- Children, Young People and Families
- Health and Well-Being
- Improving Professional Practice
- Public Health
- Supporting Care
