This is Also Motherhood* by Carolyn Mendelsohn which will be exhibited in the Studio Theatre, Edge Hill on Friday 26th June 2-4pm.

Developed in collaboration with women who have experienced perinatal mental health problems, this deeply moving series brings visibility to experiences that are far more common than we talk about, yet are too often shrouded in silence and shame.

Each story is shared through:

  • A powerful contemporary portrait
  • A still life or visual moment representing a pivotal time
  • A crafted audio recording of each woman’s story, told in her own voice

This exhibition offers an important opportunity to bring real experiences of perinatal mental health into the light and create space for honest, compassionate conversations about what motherhood can truly hold.

*This is Also Motherhood* is rooted in collaboration, care, and trust. Carolyn explored each story through conversation, ensuring the women involved could speak in their own words and on their own terms.

The Maternal Mental Health Alliance, are proud to support work that amplifies lived experience and challenges stigma. They extend their heartfelt thanks to the incredible women who courageously shared their stories as part of this project.

Together, we can continue to open up the conversation around maternal mental health, because this, too, is motherhood.
