Telling Stories With, Not For: A sonic installation of Black Caribbean boys’ educational experiences
The installation draws on Dr Keisha-Ann Stewart’s PhD research, Race, Black Manhood and Cultural Legitimacy: Black Caribbean Boys Navigating the English Literary Canon and is built from the direct words of Black Caribbean boys using composite storytelling. It explores their experiences of literature, identity, belonging and navigating education as young Black Caribbean males.
The installation is open from 8:30am–5:00pm on both days, and visitors are welcome to drop in at any time.
There will also be two Listen & Share sessions on each day:
- 12.15pm–1pm
- 1.15pm–2pm
These will offer an opportunity for shared listening, followed by informal conversation about the stories, the research and the questions they raise.
