Edge Hill University’s Professor Yonghuai Liu has been recognised in the top 100 best AI visualisation researchers in the world for his outstanding contribution to the field over the last decade.

Professor Liu is a leading light on topics as varied as 3D computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

This is the second time he has been recognised with a place on the AMiner AI 2000 Most Influential Scholar list which ranks 2,000 of the world’s top research scholars in the field of artificial intelligence and recognises the top 100 scholars on their honours list.

Professor Yonghuai Liu said: “It is a great honour to have my research recognised. Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly common part of all our lives and being at the forefront of such a transformative and rapidly developing technology is very exciting.”

On 15 March Professor Liu will deliver a fascinating inaugural lecture titled Deep learning- an effective tool for data analysis.

In his talk, Professor Liu will shed light on the idea behind artificial neural networks and deep learning which seeks to replicate the structure of the human brain using layered, interconnected nodes.

He added: “AI and visual computing present researchers with vast opportunities for research and development in areas that will change how humans go about their daily lives. I can’t wait to see how AI research develops in the years ahead.”

Professor Liu is the Director of the Intelligent Visual Computing Research Centre at Edge Hill University. He has published more than 200 papers in the top-ranked international conference proceedings and journals and is a senior member of IEEE, a Fellow of the British Computer Society, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy of the United Kingdom.
