Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) is a UK-wide programme that connect businesses with universities to drive innovation, improve performance and solve strategic challenges. A KTP places a skilled graduate or postgraduate (the “Associate”) into the business to deliver a defined project, supported by academic experts.

The business gains access to research informed-expertise, new skills and capabilities. Funded in part by Innovate UK, KTPs help businesses develop new products, processes or services. They typically last between 12–36 months and are proven to enhance competitiveness, productivity, and long-term innovation capacity and KTP funding covers 67% of the project costs.

What challenges can the Business School help you with?

Improving the scalability of key business processes is critical for business growth. Within businesses, people and time constraints, intensifying competition, productivity and cost pressures, and rapid market change can all create real barriers to growth.

AI-enabled technologies offer enormous opportunity to enhance efficiency, support data-driven decisions, automate routine tasks and improve customer insight.

However adopting AI effectively carries a number of challenges: data and system issues; addressing skills gaps; cultural change; unclear ROI; governance, ethics and regulation.

KTP offers a tried and tested approach to reduce risk, access the right expertise and embed the necessary skills.

At all levels of strategic, operational and tactical, for SMEs to compete most effectively in domestic and international markets, decision making which is data-led is vital.

Data-driven decision making can ensure:

  • The right customers are targeted with the right messages and products
  • Time, staff and resources are allocated efficiently.
  • Accurate forecasting, understanding which leads convert, and identifying high-value customers.
  • Bottlenecks are identified, reporting is automated, and wasted effort and rework is reduced.

Relying on evidence rather than intuition ensures SMEs can compete far more effectively in the market, especially against larger competitor organisations.

For many SMEs, reaching the right customers in crowded, competitive and complex market places is their main ongoing priority. Effective digital marketing is a crucial aspect of enabling business sustainability and growth.

However many SMEs also need to manage an omnichannel approach; managing a multi-faceted integrated approach that combines various channels of physical interactions, websites, mobile apps, social media, and email to create a consistent and seamless customer experience.

Maintaining targeted, relevant and unified customer and brand experience is a major challenge for many businesses. But when executed effectively creates greater marketing reach, improved customer response and conversion, increased customer lifetime value and repeat business.
