What you'll study

Across the year, you’ll explore how education, sport, and community settings can promote positive mental health and wellbeing.

You’ll examine real-world issues such as suicide prevention, mental health promotion across the life course, and the policies that shape practice in education and sport.

Alongside this, you’ll build your research skills through modules designed to help you plan, conduct, and apply meaningful studies that create impact.

From understanding policy to delivering change, these modules prepare you to lead with insight, compassion, and evidence-based practice.

Throughout the year, you will cover the following modules:

  • Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in Community and Performance Sport
  • Mental Health Promotion across the Life course
  • Policy and Practice in Sport, Education and Mental Health
  • Preparing for Research in Education
  • Real World Research and Impact in Education

How you'll study

The programme is available full-time and part-time. You will learn in various ways, including through lectures, workshops, group discussions, interactive learning technologies, and independent study tasks. You will be also be supported to complete your assessments through dedicated assessment preparation activities. Where appropriate, you will also benefit from engaging with industry partners and undertaking applied research projects which address real-world problems in your areas of interest.

You will be assessed in various ways, including written coursework, presentations, portfolios, and reports.

Who will be teaching you

The programme is delivered by internationally-recognised research active staff who are experts in their field. Our staff also work closely with external partners in education and related sectors in local to global settings.

You can expect to receive your timetable at enrolment. Please note that while we make every effort to ensure that timetables are as student-friendly as possible, scheduled teaching can take place on any day or evening of the week.

The availability of optional modules may vary from year to year and will be subject to minimum student numbers being achieved. This means that the availability of specific optional modules cannot be guaranteed. Optional module selection may also be affected by timetabling requirements. Entry criteria

English language requirements

International students require IELTS 6.5, with a score no lower than 6.0 in each individual component, or an equivalent English language qualification.

If your current level of English is half a band, one band, or one-and-a-half bands lower, either overall or in one or two elements, you may want to consider our Pre-Sessional English course.
