Bio

Dr Yonghuai Liu is a full Professor of Computer Graphics and Games at Department of Computer Science, Edge Hill University since September 2018. He was a senior lecturer (associate professor) between 2011 and 2018 and a lecturer between 2001 and 2011 both at Aberystwyth University. He obtained his second PhD degree in 2001 from The University of Hull, United Kingdom and his first PhD degree in 1998 from Northwestern Polytechnical University, P.R. China. From March 2000 to September 2001, he worked as a research fellow at Sheffield Hallam University. From April to September 1999, he worked as a research assistant at The University of Hull. He is currently an area/associate editor for a number of international journals and conference proceedings, including Pattern Recognition Letters, Neurocomputing, American Journal of Educational Research, and Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation. He was also a guest editor for a number of international journals including the top international journals in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition: International Journal of Computer Vision, Computer Vision and Image Understanding, and EUPASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing. He published two books on universal logic and edited the first ever textbook entitled “3D Imaging, Analysis and Applications” in the field of 3D vision and several other books on robotics and intelligence. He has been serving as programme committee member and referee for more than 70 international conferences and journals. He has published more than 170 papers in top-ranked international conference proceedings and journals including the top-ranked computer vision, pattern recognition, computer graphics and medical imaging journals and conference proceedings: IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence and Proceedings of IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition.

He won the best associate editor award in 2017 as an associate editor of the Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, and the best reviewer award consecutively in 2014 and 2013 as a reviewer of the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, the best conferences in the field of robotics and multimedia. His PhD student also won the best student paper award in 2011 from International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis. His primary research interests lie in 3D computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and intelligent systems. He is a senior member of IEEE and Fellow of Higher Education Academy of United Kingdom.
