Your subject session:
Python Programming
In this session, you’ll take part in engaging programming activities using Interactive Python Technologies. The tasks will involve plotting and viewing maps centred on their own location, while also exploring local weather patterns to see how data can be visualised in real time.
You’ll further experiment with image processing techniques, learning how to zoom in, adjust views, and analyse details within pictures. Alongside this, you’ll be introduced to key ideas in software development, such as writing clear code and testing simple applications.
This combination of mapping, weather data, image exploration, and coding practice is designed to be accessible and enjoyable, giving you a rounded experience of how Python can connect with real world information and creative problem solving.

Your subject session:
Ethical hacking
You’ll be introduced to Ethical Hacking through a tutor theory-based discussion. You’ll be introduced to what it means to do hacking ethically and that hacking is a crime. The process of ethical hacking will be discussed together with the activities that a hired pen tester would perform such as ‘assessing vulnerabilities. You’ll be shown some of the specialist tools for ethical hacking and gain insight into some real-world attacks through a video with a quiz to follow.
The second part of the session involves a Phishing Activity where you’ll analyse a Social Engineering Attack and have an attempt at your own social engineering simulation. This provides an opportunity to get inside the mind of the hacker.

Your subject session:
Designing User Interfaces in Unreal Engine: The Basics
During this workshop, you’ll get a hands-on introduction to how User Interfaces (UI) are created and implemented in games using Unreal Engine. The session provides a taster of first-year learning, showcasing the creative and technical skills you’ll develop on the course. No prior experience with Unreal Engine or programming is required.
You’ll explore the importance of UI in shaping a player’s experience, covering everything from health bars and menus to interaction prompts, and will build your own simple UI elements using Unreal’s UMG (Unreal Motion Graphics) system. This session is designed to be fun, accessible, and representative of real game development workflows.
By the end of the session, you will:
- Understand the role of UI in communicating information and guiding player behaviour.
- Become familiar with Unreal Engine’s interface and the UMG Designer toolset.
- Create basic UI elements such as text, icons, buttons, or progress bars.
- Implement their UI into a small playable scene via Blueprints.
- Gain insight into how game design and technical implementation work together.
