Education is everywhere – from schools to community organisations, sports foundations to the arts, hospitals to criminal justice settings, and from professional and business services to creative industries including digital and virtual technology.

Our BA (Hons) Education and Mental Health programme equips you with the necessary skills, experience and knowledge needed to pursue a graduate career specialising in the promotion of mental health in these diverse settings. Blending theory with real-world application, it examines key topics such as mental health promotion programmes, child and youth mental health, digital technology, sport, trauma-informed and whole school approaches, neurodiversity, youth and social work, and social and emotional wellbeing.

What you'll study

In your first year, you’ll develop the skills and confidence to succeed at university while exploring what education means in today’s world. You’ll learn how to study and research effectively, examine key ideas and values that shape education, and begin to understand the role it plays in supporting wellbeing. You’ll also develop an understanding of how your knowledge can be applied in education and mental health settings.

In your second year, you’ll explore how technology, mental health, and community engagement shape modern education. You’ll examine the opportunities and challenges of digital learning, investigate contemporary approaches to promoting mental health, and consider the impact of education within the wider community. You’ll also continue to develop your understanding of how your knowledge and skills can be applied in educational and mental health settings.

In your final year, you’ll build on your previous learning to explore education’s role in society and its potential to drive positive change. You’ll engage with real-world research, examine how education can promote mental health and wellbeing, and develop an understanding of the skills needed to lead and manage within community education settings. You’ll also reflect on your professional and academic growth, consolidating the skills and knowledge that will prepare you to make a meaningful impact in education and mental health, beyond university.

Entry criteria

Typical offer 96-104 UCAS Tariff points. No specific subjects are required.

Two GCSES at Grade C or Grade 4 or above (including English).

All students enrolling on this programme will need an enhanced DBS check.

T Level Overall grade of Pass (C or above on the core).
International Baccalaureate (IB) We are happy to accept IB qualifications which achieve the required number of UCAS Tariff points.
Access to Higher Education Diploma 45 credits at Level 3, for example 15 credits at Distinction, 15 credits at Merit and 15 credits at Pass. The required total can be attained from various credit combinations.

Please note, the above examples may differ from actual offers made. A combination of A Level and BTEC awards may also be accepted.

If you have a minimum of two A Levels (or equivalent), there is no maximum number of qualifications that we will accept UCAS points from. This includes additional qualifications such as Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), AS Levels that haven't been continued to A Level, and General Studies AS or A Level awards.

English language requirements

International students require IELTS 6.0, with a score no lower than 5.5 in each individual component, or an equivalent English language qualification.

 

Fair Entry Criteria

Our new Fair Entry Criteria is a Contextual Admissions Policy that takes an applicant’s personal and educational background into account. Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education enjoys the enviable position of being one of the country’s leading providers of transformative education, training and research for the teaching and education workforce. Housed in a state-of-the-art £9m building, the Faculty of Education enjoys a stunning setting from both its lakeside and piazza buildings.

Facilities in the lakeside building include a 300-seat lecture theatre, five well-equipped ICT suites, and 18 teaching rooms complete with the latest technology.

Our nearby piazza building houses our Research Hub and our Secondary and Further Education department including a lecture theatre and a number of seminar rooms.

Dedicated employability sessions in each year of study will guide you in writing a CV, producing a professional LinkedIn profile, and compiling an electronic portfolio that evidences your graduate skills.
