I never imagined that I’d be sitting in one of the country’s most famous studios, with a producer who had worked with Paul McCartney, mixing a track that I’d written in my bedroom. The opportunities within the department are incredible.
My passion is music. I’m a musician, singer and songwriter and, from performing with my band across the North West, I’d become interested in the technical side of making music.
A degree in Music Production was the perfect choice for me. I wanted to learn more about the science behind music, while pursuing my own musical interests. After three years of travelling, teaching English and volunteering, I knew I couldn’t sustain an interest in a subject if my heart wasn’t really in it.
The course is so much more than learning to be a music producer. I’m constantly discovering new areas of music and music theory that are helping me develop as a musician, building my knowledge of the industry, and honing my production skills.
Every module has the potential to take you in a new direction. Since starting my degree, I’ve changed from wanting a studio career to considering sound design, live sound engineering, or possibly teaching. It’s opened my eyes to so many possibilities.
Learning at Edge Hill gives you the confidence to branch out and test out new things. I’d always played rock and blues before, but I’ve discovered folk, classical, even Latin jazz – I’m a big bossa nova fan now, and that’s something I never thought I’d hear myself say.
The course has had a major impact on my personal creativity. I feel like I’ve really grown as a player and songwriter.
I never imagined that I’d be sitting in one of the country’s most famous studios, with a producer who had worked with Paul McCartney, mixing a track that I’d written in my bedroom. The chance to record at the legendary Parr Street Studios was an unforgettable experience and an amazing insight into how a real studio works. The opportunities within the department are incredible.
