The teaching and learning environment stands out for being interactive and student-focused. Lecturers encourage questions, discussions, and independent thinking, making learning engaging and practical.

I’m from Sri Lanka. I chose Edge Hill University because it is one of the safest universities in the United Kingdom with excellent facilities, and it is top-ranked in the field of science.

I chose biotechnology because it guides me toward my future career goal of becoming a bioinformatician.

My experience at Edge Hill University has been excellent. The lectures are friendly, accessible, and supportive. The balance between theory and hands-on practical work in labs has been particularly valuable.

I received strong academic support from my lecturers and tutors through feedback and one-to-one guidance. The university also provides personal and career-related support services, which helped me stay motivated and confident.

The campus community is friendly, diverse, and welcoming. Student life is active, with many societies, events, and opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds. The Catalyst building is my favourite place on campus, with great study spaces and a calm environment. Cultural celebrations and career fairs are also worth attending, offering both fun and valuable experience.

Some of my most memorable experiences include group projects and practical lab sessions. Working with classmates built teamwork and communication skills. Completing challenging coursework and presentations as part of a group project was a highlight that boosted my confidence and made me proud of my progress.

Adapting to a new academic system and managing time effectively was challenging at first. I overcame this by planning my schedule and seeking help from lecturers when needed. Over time, I became more confident and organised.

Edge Hill University has helped me grow academically by improving my subject knowledge and research skills. Personally, it has made me more independent, confident, and resilient. The course has prepared me for my future career by providing theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and skills such as data analysis, teamwork, and critical thinking.

Although formal placements may be limited, coursework-based projects and practical lab work were very valuable. They allowed me to apply knowledge to real-world scenarios and strengthened my career readiness.

My advice to new students is to make use of university support services, stay organised, manage time well, and get involved in campus activities. Asking for help early makes a big difference.

If I could describe my time at Edge Hill in one word, it would be transformative. The experiences, challenges, and support I received shaped my personal and professional development and prepared me for the future.
