Biography

Richard is a Senior Lecturer in Primary and Childhood Education at Edge Hill University, where he serves as the Planning Strand Lead for the Primary Programme and leads the Year One Foundation Subject module. He brings extensive teaching experience across both mainstream and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) settings, spanning from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through to Key Stage 3 (KS3) specialising in Primary.

During his time in school leadership, Richard served as a Foundation and Core Subject Lead. In this capacity, he earned the Primary Science Quality Mark at GILT level and attained Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach) status. These roles allowed him to develop significant expertise in cross-school collaboration and educational consulting.

Prior to joining Edge Hill, Richard was the Primary Science Subject Lead for the Associated Merseyside Partnership ITT. He continues to shape science education at a national level by advising on the Oak National Academy’s Science Subject Expert Group.

Richard’s academic work is deeply rooted in educational equity. He is currently undertaking a Master’s project that utilises autoethnography to examine the intersection of social justice and curriculum design. Concurrently, he is pursuing a doctorate investigating social justice and the lived experiences of mature students.
