Molly Hepburn

BSc (Hons) Geography

Headshot of BSc (Hons) Geography student Molly Hepburn

I strived to improve my employability by successfully completing this placement. I further developed skills learned during my degree in a workplace environment while it also provided an extremely valuable experience I could refer to when completing application processes of interviews for graduate roles.

Gaining experience in highly skilled employment

Molly completed a paid placement with the Isle of Man government in the role of Highway Division Assistant.

During her time on placement, Molly completed a mapping project that involved the production of maps that indicated potential routes to encourage local people to walk or cycle as an alternative to using a motor vehicle.

Molly used knowledge and geospatial analysis from her degree to assist with writing reports and delivering presentations to governing officers.

Molly’s paid placement has allowed her to secure employment with the Isle of Man government.

“In 2019, Molly Hepburn worked for several months with the Isle of Man mapping unit, which is the Island’s national mapping agency. We had spotted her potential whilst on a placement with the Highways office and offered her a paid internship to assist us with a wide range of our projects. Her skillsets and attitude were outstanding and she made a huge and positive impact on our work. She learned some specific skills at University (such as ESRI GIS mapping system) which enabled her to begin work without too much technical training.”
