Mike Palmer MBE
3 Dads Walking | Suicide Prevention Campaigner
Profile
Biography
After his daughter, 17 year old Beth died by suicide in 2020, Mike joined with two other similarly bereaved fathers to form 3 Dads Walking. Their belief that other families can be spared the pain of losing a loved one in this way by investing in good mental health and wellbeing from an early age. They have walked over 1500 miles across the UK raising over £1.5 million for Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide and have been successful in getting Suicide Prevention on the English RSHE Curriculum and continue to lobby the rest of the UK to follow suit.
Mike is delighted to join the Centre EAG because he believes Physical Activity is core to support good MH and wellbeing. Being taught its importance from an early age will go along way to produce happy, balanced and resilient young people who are aware of how to thrive in a complicated world that does not always encourage a healthy life style. He believes academic proof is needed to make Physical Activity a key foundation life skill on all schools curriculums from early years and the Centre will play a vital role in making this a reality.
In the long run this work will play its part in helping bring suicide figures down and relieve pressure on already overstretched support services.
