Biography

Maxine Rigby is a Senior Lecturer in Nurse Education in the Faculty of Health, Social Work and Medicine.  She is a registered Learning Disability Nurse and Specialist Community Practitioner (SPQ Learning Disability Nursing).  Maxine is Programme Lead for MSc (Pre-Registration) Nursing Programme and is an elected member of Edge Hill’s Employability Sub-Committee representing Nursing and Midwifery. 

Maxine has worked with autistic people and people with learning disabilities for over 20 years across a range of settings and is passionate about developing safe, effective and quality services for these populations. 

Maxine holds a PGCert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  In addition to this, Maxine is a qualified Practice Teacher (PGCert Practice Teacher) and has experience supervising and assessing post -registration nursing students on specialist practice programmes.  

Maxine is a Moving and Handling trainer and a CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) trainer. 

Maxine is in her second year of a Professional Doctorate and is currently planning for Phase two.  Maxine’s main research interests include Autistic Adult’s experiences of Health Promotion and Autistic Children’s experiences of assessment and support post diagnosis.  Maxine is interested in visual research methodologies, in particular, Photovoice.

Maxine maintains good links with clinical practice and holds a bank contract with Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust supporting the Autism Clinical Pathways.  She has ten years’ experience in autism assessment for children and adults and is proficient in the use diagnostic tools including ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2).
