Originally I never planned to go to university but I had a change of heart in college after hearing the benefits the university can provide, during the degree and after. I was intrigued because I wanted to learn more about mental health. I had previously worked with adults and autism and done some voluntary work in a nursery where there were children with autism and I loved watching how their brains worked and seeing the type of person they were. I wanted to learn more about the different types of mental health and I’ve been around children most of my life and enjoyed being around them.

I like that the campus is all quite close together, it makes it easier to navigate yourself round campus and locate your seminar and lecture rooms. I also like that the course is broad and that it can go into multiple jobs, as I’ve had some experience but even still at this time I’m not 100% sure on what I want my job to be.

I would say that the top three skills that I have developed during my degree are confidence, communication and time management. I wasn’t afraid to ask tutors questions, which is something I previously struggled with in high school.

My most memorable moment of my degree was my first placement. I really enjoyed finding and making the materials for it, and I can’t wait for my second one.

I love talking about the holistic approaches to everything on this degree – it was also something I really enjoyed talking about in college. However, I also love the work experience side too especially for someone like me who at the minute can’t fully decide what she wants to do.

The best thing about Edge Hill to me is how close everything is and the Catalyst. The Catalyst was my second home in year 2 and it will be in year 3 too ! I find it so easy and calming to study there.

When I graduate I hope to end up in a full time job working with children and within mental health, or try some different jobs and just keep gaining experiences. I would advise students wanting to study this course to take advantage of the catalyst and Uni Skills sessions and don’t be afraid to communicate with tutors and fellow students.
