BSc (Hons) Accountancy

I had access to a variety of resources through careers such as the opportunity to have a practice interview. This prepared me for interviews with the big four accountancy firms.

I was inspired to study my degree at Edge Hill as it is ranked as one of the best universities to study at in the UK. I also saw that Edge Hill provide exemptions towards ICAEW/ACCA which encouraged me even more due to the field I wanted to work in. When I failed my GCSEs, I reflected on why I didn’t do well and where I would want to be when I am older. That feeling of not doing well in an exam really does have an impact on you and I used this to motivate me to do something with myself and inspired me to work harder. Growing up in a family where no one went to university made me want to change and show people that no matter your background you can achieve great things and do anything you want.

My favourite thing about studying Accounting at Edge Hill was the level of support the teachers provide. You had support inside and outside of the class and the teachers made sure you understood the topics before moving on. The teachers are excellent and provide a personal experience when you enter each class and they make the subjects interesting to learn. There really is no comparison. Not only did they provide great tuition but they made you feel welcome every time you came to classes.

The careers service at Edge Hill helped me to find placements during the summer. I had access to a variety of resources through careers such as the opportunity to have a practice interview. This made prepared me for interviews with the big four accountancy firms, as well as other firms. The modules are designed to not only provide you with knowledge but how to apply it to the real world. I was also able to help out at some of the accountancy events taking place in the University, along with being a student course rep in my final year.

I have developed IT skills on key systems that are used in the real world, such as Sage 50 accounts and Excel. As part of the degree, I have gained certificates in Sage. Understanding how Sage and Excel works really does put you at an advantage for your future career.

My plan for the future is to continue to progress within the accountancy/audit industry whilst becoming ICAEW qualified. The long term goal is to become an audit partner.

My advice for anyone studying an Accounting and Finance degree at Edge Hill is to make the most out of every class. The teachers have real world experience which is amazing to hear about.
