Learning Support Specialist
Education Alumna

I would 100% recommend an education degree to anyone considering one. Edge Hill is a fantastic university and the staff within the Faculty of Education are all really supportive.
I came to an open day and just felt so welcome and I knew I’d be happy at Edge Hill.
Edge Hill is not too far from home for me and I was already familiar with the stunning campus. My inspiration for studying the children and young people’s learning and development degree came when I was working as a learning support assistant.
I wasn’t certain of my career path but I knew I wanted to work with children and young people so the course was perfect. It opened my eyes to all the options available to me, gave me a chance to get some work experience through a placement opportunity, and study some really interesting modules.
I had the best time at Edge Hill I made friends for life and got to live and study on a gorgeous campus.
My course was fantastic and my tutors were all so supportive. Each module was interesting and well taught and we even got to go on trips such as to the slavery museum.
I currently work as a learning support specialist at a college, writing inclusive teaching plans for students. Since graduating I have worked abroad as a tennis coach, worked at a school summer camp, and now I am a learning support specialist at a college, writing inclusive teaching plans for students.
I have become part of a growing team of learning support staff working to ensure that every student with a learning difficulty and/or medical condition receives any support they need to access their college classes. I also deliver training on assistive technology to other staff members.
I am now back at Edge Hill studying PGCert SpLD (Dyslexia). When I have finished this I hope to tutor students with dyslexia and literacy difficulties. I am also still considering applying for an educational psychology doctorate.
I would 100% recommend an education degree to anyone considering one. Edge Hill is a fantastic university and the staff within the Faculty of Education are all lovely and really supportive.
