Profile

Biography

I joined the department full time in October 2023 as a senior lecturer. Prior to that I had worked in the department as an Associate Tutor teaching on a variety of modules and I was also a part-time Post-Doctoral Research Associate at University of Manchester.

Research Interests

My research interests are primarily in ectomycorrhizal fungi but I have a strong interest in other mycorrhizal groups and soil microbial diversity and functioning. I am particularly interested in microbial communities in habitats of conservation concern and habitat restoration projects.

Teaching

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, I teach at all degree levels including our MSc Conservation Management.

I am currently Programme Leader for the BSc Ecology and Conservation. In 2026-2027 I will be module leader for three MSc modules (Placement, Ecological Theory in Conservation and Conservation Management and GIS). At L4 I will be teaching in the Ecology and Biodiversity modules. At L5 Laboratory Masterclass, and at L6 Epidemiology and Plant and Animal Interactions. Alongside this I will have research project students at L5, L6 and L7.

I have experience at teaching abroad in China, online (primarly during COVID) and students undertaking courses prior to PGCEs. I teach in the field, the laboratory and in traditional lecture settings.
