Emma Hall
BSc (Hons) Business & Management
I decided to do an industrial placement to get some experience and enhance my CV - I never imagined it would lead to a trip to Malawi to build a school.
I’ve grown up with a passion for business. I’d enjoyed doing a Business BTEC at college, finding out how all parts of a business link together. So, I thought a Business and Management degree would broaden my horizons and allow me to find my own specialism.
I decided to do an industrial placement to get some experience and enhance my CV. I’d developed an interest in supply chain management, so I was really pleased to get a placement with Johnson & Johnson in their supply chain department.
I never imagined it would lead to a trip to Malawi. As well as learning how a large organisation works, I was lucky enough to be one of 30 employees worldwide chosen to take part in a project in Malawi. I learned so much about myself and the company on that trip and I think this experience has really helped me get on the career ladder.
Edge Hill has definitely prepared me for working. The course has opened my eyes and made me really think about what I need to do to stand out.
I really enjoyed the Employability module. Through this, I gained work experience in an accountancy firm which gave me a good insight into business, helped build my core skills and reflect on my weaknesses so I could improve on them.
I feel I’ve discovered my potential. The course highlights your abilities, particularly ones you didn’t even know you had, and helps you discover areas you can develop. It’s easy to always play to your strengths but sometimes you need to challenge yourself too.
Edge Hill made me believe in myself. I never thought I’d work for a global company.
