Biography

Dr Maryna Utkina is a Senior Lecturer Lecturer in Law in the School of Law and Criminal Justice.

She has awarded Jean Monnet Module ‘The Protection of IP Rights of Researchers and Research Institutions in Ukraine: Best EU Practices’ by the European Commission.

Maryna is leading a project funded by the British Academy, which explores the effectiveness of financial monitoring in corruption prevention, anti-money laundering and financing terrorism. 

She was previously a Visiting Academic at University of Foggia (Italy, 2017-2018), Comenius University (Slovakia, 2019), University of Latvia (Latvia, 2020), University of Hamburg (Germany, 2024), Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Police (Canada, 2024-2025), University of Liverpool (UK, 2025) and University of Warwick (UK, 2022-2025). 

Maryna’s principal research interest lies in financial monitoring (intelligence) (particularly at the intersections of anti-money laundering, prevention of corruption and achieving sustainable development goals) and digital technologies.
