I’ve been fortunate enough to complete my final year placement in a school in Cumbria – learning first-hand how rural schools operate and teach differently to city schools.

I’ve wanted to become a teacher for as long as I can remember. The ability to make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people is what made it the obvious choice for me.

Edge Hill has a great reputation for initial teacher training. But what really attracted me to study here is the beautiful campus. It’s filled with picturesque places to sit with a coffee or sit in the sunshine chatting with friends.

The lakeside Faculty of Education building has become a home-from-home to me. I spend most of my time there, studying and meeting with my tutors for one-to-one advice. Everyone I walk past is so friendly and helpful, it’s such a happy place to be

I’ve been fortunate enough to complete my final year placement in a school in Cumbria – learning first-hand how rural schools operate and teach differently to city schools. This experience has really helped me develop my skills as a teacher and opened up my mind to taking up a career in a rural area. Plus, I got to spend a few months living in a beautiful part of England meeting new people at the same time.

The staff at Edge Hill have been so supportive throughout my degree. They have encouraged me to get involved with as much as possible. I even had the opportunity to deliver a presentation at last year’s British Education Research Association (BERA) conference – a real degree highlight for me. Since then, I’ve been approached by BERA to take part in a podcast, as well as write a journal for their mental health in higher education publication. Making these contacts and building my research experience has been a huge confidence boost for me.

I’ve recently been elected as the Faculty of Education Engagement Officer within the Students’ Union. I’m really excited about getting started in that role and championing the LGBTQ+ students within the faculty. The opportunities and support here have been amazing, and I’m planning to stay here to complete my Master’s in Research. Edge Hill have certainly fostered my lifelong love of learning
