Anna Scott
BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult)
The University’s reputation for outstanding lecturers and its excellent nursing facilities make it the perfect place for me to grow, learn, and become the nurse I aspire to be.
I was inspired to become a nurse because I have a deep passion for helping people during their most vulnerable times. Growing up in care has shaped who I am and given me a strong sense of drive and determination. Experiencing life from that perspective taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of having someone there to support you through difficult times. It inspired me to become that person for others to be someone who listens, understands, and truly cares.
My past experiences motivate me to help people through their own struggles. To provide comfort and reassurance when they need it most, and to make a real difference in their lives, just as I wished for when I was younger.
I find great purpose in offering support, kindness, and compassion throughout a patient’s journey. Through both the good moments and the challenges, I want to help patients feel cared for and never alone.
The best thing about Edge Hill University is the incredible support from the staff and the lifelong friendships I made along the way. The University’s reputation for outstanding lecturers and its excellent nursing facilities make it the perfect place for me to grow, learn, and become the nurse I aspire to be. The beautiful outdoor campus, the calming presence of nature and animals, and the positive, welcoming atmosphere instantly make it feel like home.
During my nursing degree, I have developed several key skills that have prepared me to provide high-quality care. One of the main skills I’ve gained is effective communication, which has helped me build strong, trusting relationships with patients and colleagues. I’ve also developed critical thinking and clinical decision-making abilities, allowing me to assess situations quickly and respond with appropriate care. I’ve also strengthened my ability to stay calm under pressure, ensuring I remain focused and professional even in fast-paced or emotionally challenging environments. These skills have been vital in shaping me into a confident and compassionate nurse.
One of the most memorable moments of my nursing degree was the first time a patient personally thanked me for the care and comfort I gave them during a difficult time. It was a simple moment, but it meant so much it reminded me why I chose this path and showed me the real impact I could have on someone’s life. That experience has stayed with me and continues to inspire me every day
When I graduate, I want to dedicate my career to working with the most vulnerable patients, providing care with a compassionate and non-judgmental approach. I believe everyone deserves to feel valued, respected, and supported, no matter their background or circumstances. My goal is to be a steady, understanding presence for those who need it most.
I’m also passionate about mentoring other nursing students. I wish to support with offering guidance, encouragement, and sharing what I’ve learned to help them grow in confidence and succeed on their own nursing journeys.
My advice to anyone considering studying nursing at Edge Hill would be to always believe in yourself, even on the toughest days. Nursing is challenging, but it’s also one of the most rewarding paths you can take. Remember why you started and hold on to that passion, especially when things feel overwhelming.
Every shift, every lesson, and every patient encounter is shaping you into the nurse you’re meant to be. Never be afraid to ask for help, lean on your peers, and take pride in how far you’ve come. You are capable, you are strong, and you have the power to make a real difference.
I am proud to say that I am the first person in my family to go to university a milestone that means so much to me. It’s a reflection of how far I’ve come and the strength I’ve gained along the way. I know that if my family could see me now, they would be incredibly proud too, and that thought motivates me every single day to keep pushing forward and making the most of every opportunity.
Edge Hill University has been nothing short of amazing and incredibly supportive from the very beginning of my nursing journey. From being awarded an Excellence Scholarship at the start, to receiving an Excellence in Nursing Placement certificate for the care I provided to patients, I have felt truly valued and encouraged every step of the way.
To anyone out there wondering if they can do it, no matter your background, age, or the path you’ve taken, you absolutely can. Believe in yourself, work hard, and you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
