My lecturers have been incredibly supportive by providing clear guidance on lesson planning, behaviour management, and effective teaching strategies. They have been approachable and encouraging, creating a supportive environment for both academic and professional development.

Can you tell us about your background (education and or career to date?) and what inspired you to pursue a PGCE, what was it about Edge Hill University that attracted you?

I completed my high school (specialized in Biomaths), Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies (both in physics) in India. During my studies, I became increasingly interested in how effective teaching can transform students learning experiences and futures. This inspired me to pursue a PGCE.

Edge Hill University attracted me because of its outstanding reputation for teacher training and its supportive learning environment.

Are you the first in your family to go university? If so, how has that shaped your experience?

No, I am not the first in my family to attend university. Having family members who have already experienced higher education has been a great source of support and guidance throughout my academic journey.

How did you hear about us?

I first heard about Edge Hill University through my research into reputable teacher training programs in the UK.

What’s your favourite thing about your degree?

My favourite thing about my degree has been the opportunity to deeply explore physics and understand how it connects to real world applications.

What additional workshops or activities have you found particularly helpful in developing your teaching skills, knowledge and behaviours (e.g., behaviour management, voice projection)?

I found behaviour management and safeguarding workshops especially helpful for creating a calm and structured classroom environment. Training in modelling and scaffolding has improved my ability to explain complex physics concepts clearly and support all learners effectively.

How have your lecturers helped you during your degree?

My lecturers have been incredibly supportive by providing clear guidance on lesson planning, behaviour management, and effective teaching strategies. They have been approachable and encouraging, creating a supportive environment for both academic and professional development.

How has your subject knowledge improved to date?

My subject knowledge has improved significantly through a combination of university sessions, independent study, and teaching practice demonstrations. Planning and delivering lessons has deepened my understanding of core physics topics. Regular feedback from mentors and my peers has also helped me address gaps and refine my explanations.

How will you implement your learning within your professional practice whilst on placement?

I will use what I have learnt to manage behaviour calmly, explain physics topics clearly using modelling, and support students with scaffolding. I will check understanding often and adapt my teaching to meet their needs. I will also make sure my classroom is safe and inclusive by following safeguarding practices.

What opportunities do you think this degree gives you? What career do you intend to pursue?

I have always dreamed of becoming a teacher, and this degree is the key step toward making that dream a reality. It gives me the opportunity to turn my passion for teaching into a professional career. It also provides the training, classroom experience, and subject expertise needed to become a confident and effective teacher.

How will your degree enhance your employability?

By providing both subject specific expertise and practical teaching experience, which are highly valued in schools.

What’s the best thing about Edge Hill University to you?

Edge Hill University stands out for its excellent teaching quality, supportive learning environment and strong student services. It’s modern facilities and beautiful campus also make it a great place to study and grow both personally and professionally.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

When I graduate, I hope to become a qualified physics teacher and start teaching in schools. I want to inspire students, make science engaging, and help them enjoy learning just as I did.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying this degree at Edge Hill?

I would advise them to be open to learning, stay organised, and make the most of the support available at Edge Hill. The course can be challenging, but it is very rewarding.

In what ways has Edge Hill supported you during your degree (e.g., academic support, wellbeing services, careers guidance)?

Yes, through excellent academic support, including helpful mentors and clear feedback to improve my teaching skills.

How have you adapted to studying and teaching in a new cultural context?

I have adapted by being respectful and willing to learn from others experiences and perspectives. Building relationships with colleagues, asking questions and reflecting on my own have helped me understand and respond to cultural differences more effectively.

Have you felt a sense of community at Edge Hill? What helped you feel included?

Yes, the friendly atmosphere, supportive tutors, and opportunities to collaborate with classmates really helped me.
