What first interested you in mathematics?

Mathematics is full of problems! What I find fascinating about it is that every problem seems like a clandestine code, which you can logically decipher. My passion for mathematics grew from a young age and has led me to a career in teaching the subject. Studying mathematics is important because it helps you think critically about the world around you and develop essential skills to solve real-life problems. My research is largely focused on the applications of the General Linear Model and Structural Equation Modelling within a variety of mathematical, educational and health contexts.

The real beauty of mathematics lies behind its irrefutable proofs and its endless arrays of applications, particularly to the online world of social media that we use daily.

Why is mathematics such an exciting topic to study?

Mathematics is a common framework for communication and collaboration among scientists, engineers, and researchers worldwide. Mathematics provides a systematic way of understanding and solving problems, helping us make sense of the world around us. Whether it’s calculating the trajectory of a space probe, analysing economic trends, or designing a skyscraper, mathematics offers powerful tools for problem-solving across various fields.

Studying mathematics cultivates critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills that are valuable not only in academic pursuits but also in everyday life.
It encourages creativity and resilience in approaching challenges and fosters a mindset of continuous learning and growth.

Mathematics serves as the backbone of technological innovations, driving advancements in fields such as computer science, artificial intelligence, and telecommunications. Mathematics underpins scientific research, providing the language and tools for understanding natural phenomena and formulating hypotheses.
