We would like to invite you to a presentation by Sally Tomlinson (PhD, D. Litt) is Emeritus Professor at Goldsmiths, London University and an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford.

About Professor Tomlinson

Sally has been teaching, researching and writing for many years in the areas of education policy, race ethnicity and education and special and inclusive education.
Her recent books are:

  • ‘Ignorance’ (Agenda Publications 2022)
  • ‘Education and Race from Empire to Multiracial Britain’ (Policy Press 2026).

Event Details

One hour Teams meeting with time for questions and answers where Professor Tomlinson will be discussing recent research around society and education.

What does a society that educates all its young people rather than simply schooling them look like? This paper addresses this by discussing some of the positive and negative developments in schooling, especially during the 20th century. Positives include decisions made halfway through this century to school almost all children from age 5 to 15 (later to 16), and after another 25 years to decide that all children were ‘educable,’ whilst negatives in schooling a mass population of some 8 million children and young people are manifold.
