Edge Hill Graduate lands dream gaming job

November 4, 2022

Recent graduate Simon Kent has secured his dream job working for Xbox games, helping to test games for bugs and errors.

Simon, from Cheshire, graduated in BSc (Hons) Marketing with Digital Communications in 2022. After a short job hunt, he is over the moon to have gained a job in the very competitive gaming industry, within game development and production.

Simon will be checking games for bugs and providing other departments with this vital information so they can fix any issues long before the games are published.

Simon knew Edge Hill was the right fit for him after attending an open day, he said: “You could clearly see the passion from the staff throughout the University as well as the modern facilities on offer. As for marketing itself, the range of different pathways and specialties that could come from this course was clear.

“A lot of the skills I picked up during University, I am now using everyday in the workplace. Ones that stand out are time management, communication skills, flexibility and teamwork, as well as how to approach work and act professionally.”

Simon also threw himself into university life, joining societies, and attending events on campus. He said the range of events and the hustle and bustle of university life made his studies fun and enjoyable.

Talking about the Business School, Simon added: “I really enjoyed all the different ways we could get involved outside of classes such as being a course rep or a student ambassador. I also really enjoyed the ability to discuss new and trending topics and use them within our university work.”
