Edge Hill University Food recognise that the University is a rich and diverse community, with a diverse body of students, staff and visitors who have different religious and non-religious beliefs and ethics. We are committed to ensuring that the offer in EHU Food Outlets is varied to provide for the needs of our community.

Edge Hill University Food do not operate any exclusive Halal kitchens and cannot guarantee that cross-contamination will not occur between Halal and none Halal food. For this reason, none of our kitchens are certified as Halal by any authority. However, we do strive to source Halal certified fresh chicken across all areas to be included on all our dishes which are prepared on site along with alternative dishes which are suitable for those customers who wish to observe a Halal diet, such as Vegetarian and Vegan dishes.

For certain events this may not always be possible, so all Catering staff have been trained to understand the dietary requirements required by different faiths to help improve our service to you and are briefed daily on the dishes we serve and are able to assist in identifying these for customers on request.

All other products prepared on site including Beef and Lamb dishes are not Halal. All dishes that are not created on site and which are Halal will be clearly labelled as such, including Sandwiches.

The food served to our customers at our in-house catered outlets will provide allergen information in a clear and consistent way. Making it easier for our customers to make informed decisions on their purchases.

All food suppliers are provided with a copy of the Sustainable Food Policy and we work together to ensure the objectives are met.

As part of Edge Hill University’s commitment to sustainability we support the Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW) scheme.

Almost 50% of the total amount of food thrown away in the UK comes from our homes.  Wasting this food costs the average household £470 a year.

Edge Hill University recognises the importance of reducing food waste. Too Good to Go makes sure delicious, fresh food from cafes, restaurants, hotels, shops and manufacturers doesn’t go to waste. The Too Good To Go app lets customers buy and collect Magic Bags of this food – at a great price – directly from businesses.

Experience cashless catering with Upay.

Upay is a fast and convenient way to pay for a range of catering service at Food at Edge Hill managed outlets. Most food items can be purchased using your Upay account. Alcohol and certain confectionery items are exempt therefore these items will need to be purchased separately.

Upay is a safe way to pay for catering services. You don’t need to worry about carrying cash, but if you do lose or find your card stolen, you can simply log into your account and block the card. You can also visit the FM helpdesk where the team can issue a new card, putting a block on your lost card.
