Catering Packaging and Waste Audit

The Catering Packaging and Waste Audit (November 2025) outlines the findings and suggestions from an on site audit undertaken by Biffa for Edge Hill University which focused on understanding packaging and waste in catering areas at the University.

This report provides a baseline for areas that require attention and is aligned to KPIs outlined in our Waste and Resource Strategy 2024-2029.

Compositional waste analysis work undertaken in October 2025 indicated that food waste contributed to 40% of waste found in General Waste bins in the food outlet areas in the Hub was actually food waste which should have been put into designated food bins. This will be used as the baseline to measure the impact of measures suggested in this audit, along with a decrease in waste overall in these areas.
