Debbie Streatfield has been working to enhance her own and others’ practice in mathematics teaching for over 25 years. She has been leading professional development for Every Child Counts (ECC) since its national launch around 15 years ago.

She has an MA in Early Mathematics Intervention, which gives her a deep knowledge and understanding of how children who need support with their mathematics learn best. Debbie has taught all of the ECC interventions to individuals and small groups of children prior to helping others to do the same.

Having led mathematics in a primary school and then within an LA mathematics team for many years, she now works independently to support schools and settings.
Debbie is an NCETM Work Group and Professional Development Lead and has supported schools on their Mastery journeys in conjunction with her local Maths Hub.

For a number of years, she worked as a Numicon Consultant for Oxford University Press and has significant expertise in using this approach to teach mathematics.
She enjoys teaching, particularly children who find mathematics a challenge, and keeps abreast of current thinking through professional development and research. She has worked on a number of EEF research projects, including one looking at Working Memory and Arithmetic.

Debbie works with teachers, teaching assistants, governors, subject leaders, head teachers, and anyone else who will listen.

Course participants often comment on her enthusiasm for teaching and learning mathematics as she works to transform mathematics teaching in schools across the UK and, on occasion, internationally.
