We provide a wide range of electronic resources to support your research and studies. They are available 24/7 and this information will guide you to appropriate resources.

RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management tool that allows you to create a database of references. References can be added manually or imported from electronic journal collections and Google Scholar. For more information take a look at the RefWorks Guide.
Key Collections
Australian Education Index
This is a bibliographic database which contains citations and abstracts to over 130,000 journal articles, conference papers and books. It is the largest source of information on Australian educational research, policy and practice and it is updated monthly.
British Education Index
A key resource providing information on journal articles, reports and conference papers. Although an index ie not full text, in some cases there is direct access to an article in a journal to which Edge Hill subscribes. This resource is essential for all those undertaking any educational research.
Childlink
Childlink provides information on children and families in the UK through news, reports, legislation, parliamentary debates, case law. Especially good for early years research and provides full text material from hard to locate sources.
Education Research Complete
This is the largest database of education journals in the world, with over 2200 journals, 1300 of which are full-text. It covers all aspects and levels of education and is, therefore, a key source of information for undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers.
Educational Research Abstracts
This is a database of abstracts ie not full text, on current international research in education. It is aimed primarily at researchers and would be useful for anyone undertaking postgraduate study.
Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC)
An American source containing abstracts to journal articles, reports and conference papers. There is limited full text, however it is useful if you are doing any research based or originating in America.
InterEd
A good range of practice based full text journals in education from one publisher-strong in early years area and a good starting point for undergraduate study.
PsycArticles
A database of full-text academic journal articles in the field of psychology, including educational aspects.
PsycINFO
A database of citations and summaries of journal articles, books, dissertations and technical reports on all aspects of psychology. Full-text access exists where this is possible. Clearly useful for psychological aspects of education.
Taylor & Francis journals
This is a publisher’s collection of full text material from a leader in the field of education. It contains resources for all aspects of education and would be useful to anyone studying in this area.
Specialist Sources
Education Image Gallery
This provides access to copyright-cleared images, which can be used for learning, teaching and research (provided the source is appropriately credited). It is particularly useful for creating school level materials.
English Online
A collection of online teaching materials for use with Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, which are designed to enhance the teaching of English with ICT.
Geography Online

Science Online

Wider Research
Academic Search Premier
A multi disciplinarily database that contains full text for many peer reviewed journals. It is easy to use and contains images and a visual search with information for education related topics.
Emerald
A full text collection of management journals. It is particularly useful for studies in leadership and education management.
JSTOR
This contains archives of academic journals. Titles are always included from first issue and include previous and related titles. The most recently published issues (past 3-5 years) are not available. There are a number of education titles which can be searched.
Sage Journals
This is a multidisciplinary full text range of journals from Sage Publishing. It includes a number which offer wider reading to education students and researchers.
Social Sciences Citation Index
This indexes major social science journals covering all social science disciplines including education and management, education law, psychology, sociology, and social policy. Extending back to 1971 it is vast resource for wider research. This is an abstract and index database and doesn’t have full text.
Swetswise
This is a wide range of multidisciplinary journals from a variety of publishers which can be accessed via the SwetsWise interface. Useful for general education themes and wider reading.

National Police Improvement Agency

NCALT: National Centre for Applied Learning Technologies
This is collaboration between the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and provides courses on IT and various aspects of policing for the 43 police forces in England and Wales.
NIACE: National Institute of Adult Continuing Education
A non-governmental organisation which works to promote the interests of adult learners in England and Wales. Also includes the Basic Skills Agency.
NRDC: National Research and Development Centre for Adult Literacy and Numeracy
This organisation conducts research and development projects to improve literacy, numeracy, language and related skills and knowledge.
OFSTED: Office for Standards in Education
The inspection body for schools, further education colleges and teacher training providers.
Skills Funding Agency
The Skills Funding Agency is a partner organisation of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and they fund and regulate adult further education and skills training in England.
Young Peoples Learning Agency
The YPLA champions education and training for young people in England. It provides financial support to young learners and funds Academies for all their provision and supports local authorities to commission suitable education and training opportunities for all 16-19 year olds.

ASSOCiate Online - Our Subject

BBC Skillswise
The literacy and numeracy site from the BBC which contains a large amount of teaching and learning materials.
Learning and Violence

LSIS Learning and Skills Improvement Service
The Learning and Skills Improvement Service is the sector-owned body that aims to accelerate the drive for excellence in the learning and skills sector, building the sector's own capacity to design, commission and deliver improvement and strategic change.
Read Write Think

Behaviour Management

- UK online.gov.uk : Comprehensive gateway to UK national and local government sites available via an Organisational Index or a Functional Index, as well as a word search facility.
- Edexcel An awarding and examining body responsible for many academic and vocational qualifications eg NVQ, GNVQ. The site contains timetables, publications and INSET information.

- European Schoolnet: A one-stop shop about the European Community, includes lesson plans, teaching ideas and educational research.
- Eurydice: "The Information Network for Education in Europe" with the aim to promote the exchange of information on education systems and policies within Europe.
- International Review of Curriculum and Assessment Frameworks: INCA is the International Review of Curriculum and Assessment Frameworks Internet Archive. It provides regularly updated descriptions of government policy on education in Australia, Canada, Europe, the Far East and USA

- Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development: An international association providing professional development in the curriculum area. It also initiates and promotes educational activities. The site carries articles from the journal Education Leadership, distance learning opportunities etc.
- Association of Teachers and Lecturers: An Association which aims to support staff working across all educational institutions.
- National Association for Primary Education: The Association carries up to date information on primary issues.
- National Association of Head Teachers: The Association for all Heads and Deputies. Contains a news section, details of events and links to relevant sites.
- National Union of Students: The NUS represents the interests of 3 million further and higher education students in the UK. The site gives information on campaigns, education news and student welfare.
- Voice: The Union for Education Professionals This site provides sound advice from the union for education professionals – teaching, childcare and support staff and students.

- Autism Resources: A very comprehensive American site with detailed links to other resources. It covers all aspects of autism/Asperger's Syndrome etc.
- British Dyslexia Association: A national organisation representing over 2 million people with dyslexia. Has information for teachers, details of publications and events.
- Department for Education: SEN A comprehensive government site with advice and materials for teachers, parents and those working with children with special needs.
- Contact a Family: Contact a Family (CaF) is a UK charity providing support and advice to parents of children with any disability or special need.
- Dyslexia: An American site with features on educational approaches to dyslexia, training materials and other information.
- Inclusive Technology: Provides articles and information on special needs. Also sells products.
- NASEN: National Association for Special Educational Needs The site contains details of publications, newsletters and many links to other related resources.
- National Autistic Society:Information, materials and resources for those interested in autism and autistic spectrum disorders.
- RNIB: Royal National Institute for the Blind: The institution offers support to blind and those with sight problems. The site offers information, facts and product details.

Our aim, in collaboration with academic colleagues, is to support students studying Education. We are based in the top floor office of the LINC building at Ormskirk, in addition a specialist member of the team supports students based off campus.
As a team we provide inductions, information literacy workshops, and 1-to-1 support. We offer ICT support for Education resources and can help with preparation of the QTS Skills Test.
We help you to get the most from the resources and services we provide. We work in partnership with academic colleagues to develop group sessions to help you maximise the resources available to support your studies.

Classroom Resources
The University library at Ormskirk contains a collection of school level material from early years through to Key Stage 4, known as the Education Resource Collection. The collection is located on the ground floor in the social learning area and contains a wide range of different resources, including:

- Birmingham Maths Site Site maintained by Birmingham Education Department with teacher resources, lesson activities and puzzles.
- Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching Based at Plymouth University, the Centre is a focus for research into mathematics teaching. It also contains many useful classroom resources.
