About the Department of Sport and Physical Activity
The Department of Sport and Physical Activity is a lively, rapidly growing area, based in the Wilson Centre at Edge Hill University’s Ormskirk Campus, with excellent facilities for both curriculum and recreational activities.
Our facilities are amongst the best in Higher Education. Sports students have access to dedicated psychology, biomechanics and physiology laboratories, industry-standard dance studio, a sport and exercise rehabilitation centre and sports therapy clinic.
The department is located next to Sporting Edge, Edge Hill University’s £4m sports complex, where students benefit from 25 acres of playing fields, an athletics track, a modern fitness suite, swimming pools, four-court sports hall, squash courts, floodlit Astroturf pitches and tennis and netball courts.
The department has 32 full-time academic staff, with a wide variety of interests, expertise and activities, coaching national teams and local clubs, collaborating with national governing bodies and conducting consultations and scientific support with national teams and their athletes.
A consultancy service is provided to individual athletes and sports teams. This involves a range of physiological assessments.
