Life on Campus

Our Ormskirk Campus is a great place to live and study, with everything you could want on one site. There’s some of the best sports facilities in Higher Education, places to eat and meet, plenty of societies to join, our very own nightclub and bar, entertainment and comedy at the Rose Theatre and a cinema.

The Venue

Whether you want a quick drink or a great night out on campus with your friends, The Venue is definitely the place to be. The hub of student social life on campus, it offers something for everyone from dance nights and quizzes to live bands, pool and video games. There is also satellite TV with live sports and a licensed bar. Regular nights include themed discos, sports nights and resident or visiting DJs from the local club scene.

Rose Theatre

Culture, comedy, dance, music and more are featured in the diverse line-up of entertainment to suit all tastes, all situated in Edge Hill’s very own 200 seat stylish and comfortable Rose Theatre.

Short Cuts Cinema

Throughout the year, the Studio Theatre in Edge Hill University’s Centre for the Performing Arts screens a diverse body of carefully selected films including thrillers, comedies, tear jerker’s and modern day classics. All at a highly affordable price so grab your popcorn and get down to the Short Cuts Cinema!

Sporting Edge

Sporting Edge is Edge Hill's £3.9million sports complex situated on a 25 acre site on the main Ormskirk campus. Keep fit and active at Sporting Edge in our double gymnasium or attend our fitness and aerobics classes, with something for every ability.

Societies

Edge Hill's Students' Union offers over 30 different clubs and societies. Whether it’s sports teams, cheerleading, anime or even skydiving then we have a club for you.

We also have a number of societies dedicated to making sure that diversity is recognised and celebrated at Edge Hill. These include the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) society and CONNECT, which runs a week of events celebrating diversity each year.

Where To Meet and Eat On-Campus

• Terrace Café - open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks throughout the day, hot meals and sandwiches, always with a vegetarian option;
• The Diner - serves burgers, chips, pizza and other takeaway food;
• Water's Edge - a restaurant with cyber café, offering breakfasts, hot meals, snacks, sandwiches and salads, overlooking the lake;
• Chambers – grab a bite to eat or a relaxing drink in the newest café on campus;
• Café Rewind – catch up with friends and treat yourself to a drink, sandwich, soup or a snack;
• The Garden Café – relax and take in the lovely scenery with a coffee.

Local Nightlife

Ormskirk has a variety of pubs and bars. Regular trips are arranged to nightclubs around the North West and many students head to Liverpool for the famous nightlife of Matthew Street and the Albert Dock. Southport, Wigan, Preston and Manchester are also in easy reach for a great night out.
