The Press was established in 2015 by Dr Rodge Glass and Dr James Byrne of the Creative Writing department at Edge Hill University.
Students from the university were also offered the chance to intern at the press and gain publishing experience; everything from choosing stories and poems to proofreading, from organising events to generating publicity, and designing this very website.
The Press has secured funding for the next four years, and will be publishing new literary titles in the near future, specialising in contemporary prose, poetry and plays of high quality. The Press also works very closely with Corporate Communications in many aspects of production.
Head Land is the début publication by Edge Hill University Press, a celebration of the unique Edge Hill Short Story Prize, which is awarded annually to the best single-author collection of short stories by an author from the UK and Ireland. Edge Hill has long been a home to devotees of the short story, and in 2016 the Prize itself is ten years old, so it seemed natural to use the launch of the Press to draw attention to a selection of the authors who have been awarded the Prize in the last ten years. This anthology represents the very best of those writers at work in the short story form in these islands in the 21st Century.

Atlantic Drift is the second publication by Edge Hill University Press, it is a celebration of contemporary poetry and poetics from writers across the Atlantic. This includes, North America, Canada and Ireland as well as the UK. After the success of Headland, Dr James Byrne decided to collobrate on a new project with Professor Robert Sheppard, aimed at highlighing not only the current range of poetry, but to draw attention to the importance of poetics in this industry. Together, they worked with Arc Publications to edit and publish this anthology, which represents the best writers of poetry in the industry to date.
