The Label Recordings will be at Liverpool Sound City Festival this year, curating a three-hour Showcase, Saturday 27th May, 6-9pm on The Cavern Stage. The line-up – curated by The Label’s director Carl Hunter – features some of The Label’s most recent artists, offering an eclectic mix of sounds and vibes. The stage will bring excellent examples of emerging Liverpudlian talent, something which Carl agrees on:
“I’m really excited about curating The Label Showcase Stage at Sound City this year. We’ve selected four bands from The Label to perform. From pop to psychedelia, four fantastic examples of Liverpool’s emerging artists. The Label will be releasing a summer sampler this June, which will include a new single for Oranj Son, who will play the showcase. Great experience for our students who will be filming and broadcasting both stages and great exposure for the bands”
The line up will be as follows:
Released in April, Ali Horn’s debut solo single, Days Like Today offers a slice of psychedelic summer pop that the singer calls “feel good heartbreak music”. The single has gained considerable airplay and Ali was in session on BBC Radio Merseyside’s BBC Introducingprogramme.
Shrinking Minds, featuring Edge Hill student Liam Evans on guitar and vocals, released their second single on The Label, Something Better, in March. Described as “a riot of fuzzy guitars, full on bass and snarling vocals”, the track has received glowing reviews and earned the Merseyside trio a place on Spotify’s ‘hot new bands’ playlist. The band has national recognition from the likes of Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1), Phil Taggart (BBC Radio 1) Charlie Ashcroft (Amazing Radio) NME Radar, It’s All Indie and GetIntoThis. They have built a strong reputation in the Merseyside music scene as one of most twisted, raucous and exciting new bands.
Oranj Son are a psych punk four-piece, including third year Media, Music and Sound student Bradley Walsh on bass. Oranj Son – whose curiously spelt name hints at their twisted and brilliant music – sounds feature a tripped out take on wonky psychedelic, gritty northern Fall style grooves and laced with great melodies.
A four piece psych-rock band. Winners of Indie Week Europe and headliners at Indie Week Festival 2016 in Toronto.
