Undergraduate Operating Department Practice

Learn to care for patients during the anaesthetic, surgical and recovery phases of their journey through the operating theatre, with support from experienced practitioners. Edge Hill is home to some of the best facilities for health, social care and medicine students in the country, from mock operating theatres to our 3D immersive simulation suite.

Operating department practitioners are sought after within the UK. Our degree is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to give you the practical experience and skills you need. And, thanks to our fantastic network, you’ll spend half your time on placement at NHS trusts and independent health organisations.

Half of your time will be spent in clinical practice, with opportunities to apply your skills on placement.

Our course has an impressive employment rate, and on graduation you’ll be eligible to start working as soon as you register with HCPC.

Apply theory to practice in our operating theatres. Run scenarios that focus on human factors and non-technical skills.

ODP student Megan

Many ODPs I worked with had trained at Edge Hill. Their knowledge, professionalism and dedication is a reflection of their training. They were the type of ODP I aspired to be.
