Spaces for prayer and reflection

Our Faith and Reflection Rooms provide a quiet space for reflection, contemplation, and prayer for the exclusive use of staff and students at Edge Hill University. Open to people of all faiths and none, it offers the opportunity to explore matters of faith and spirituality, or just simply to unwind after a busy day.

Magnolia: Faith and Reflection Room

Location and opening times

You will find the Faith and Reflection Room in the Magnolia Building, next to the Forest Court Halls of Residence. There are signs around campus which can help to direct you. The Faith and Reflection Room is number 28, in square G6’ on the campus map which can be found online.

Access to staff and students is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Between 6am and 9pm, Monday to Friday, entry is through Unicard swipe. Outside of these times the door is manually locked. If the door is locked please go to the Security & Customer Information Centre, at the University Main Entrance.

Layout

We have set the Faith and Reflection Room out in a way that considers the needs of all users, and ensured it is fully accessible. There are a number of chairs and small tables in the room which can be moved according to need. We are aware that in some faiths men and women choose to pray separately. To make this possible, we have provided several moveable screens that may be used to divide the room when necessary. The screens may also be used to section off the room so that individuals and groups can use the space concurrently.

Regretfully we cannot open up the Faith and Reflection Room to members of the public as it is only a small space and in high demand. External guests, speakers and groups may be invited to use the Room by staff and students with prior agreement from the Faith and Community Service Co-ordinator.

Prayer and Quiet Room at St James’ Campus

St James’ Prayer and Quiet Room can be found in the Common Room, past the kitchen area just next to Teaching Room 7. This is available for students wishing to pray or spend some quiet reflective time.  It is a drop in space and is not bookable. If the room is in use, other users are expected to wait until it is vacant.

There is sufficient room for up to six people to use the room together, should you wish to.

In the room you will find a number of prayer mats, Qurans, Bibles and some general ‘Faith’ magazines that cover a range of topics, and some chairs. You should contact the Faith and Community Co-ordinator on the email address below if you require any additional items or have any feedback.  The nearest wash facilities are in the lobby.

Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre: Multi-Faith Room

A room has a been dedicated for prayer and reflection within the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre.  It can be found on the first floor, the first room on the right-hand side (CSSC 1.20).  Prayer mats are available. Please ask any staff member for access.
