The Big Read is back at EHU!
If you haven’t taken part before, or if you’re new to Edge Hill, The Big Read is our shared reading scheme helping you to enjoy reading and make new connections within the wider university community.
This year’s book…
From a fantastic shortlist of six books, our chosen novel is The Private Joys of Nnenna Maloney by Okechukwu Nzelu… a powerful story of youth, race, sexuality and belonging; an uplifting page-turner which you won’t want to put down.
We want you all to read it and then pass it on to a friend or drop it back at one of the collection points for someone else to pick up and enjoy.
To take part, just read the book and join in the discussions. You’ll also have the chance to meet the author and have your book signed in person (details below).
Free copies of the book are available from the Catalyst Helpdesk and:
- Business School foyer
- Creative Edge foyer
- English, History and Creative Arts foyer
- Faculty of Education foyer
- Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine foyer
- Hale Hall
- Manchester St James’ reception

In the meantime, Okechukwu wants to share a special message with you:
“We’re all connected; this is what I had in mind when I wrote The Private Joys of Nnenna Maloney. None of our journeys make sense on their own. There are people who guide us, encourage us and challenge us, and those people help shape our lives and ourselves. I’m excited for you to be embarking on your own journeys at university, and for you all to meet the people who will accompany you on your way. I’m deeply honoured that Nnenna will be one of those people.”
