Calm and Headspace

What are they offering?

A subscription to Calm or Headspace normally costs around £50 a year but they’ve both released free content specifically to help those struggling with stress and anxiety at this time. The free services include meditations, movement exercises and sleep guides to help anyone out – however they’re feeling.

How do I use it?

Calm’s free resources are available on the Calm website, while the Headspace free service – called Weathering the Storm – is accessible on both its app and the Headspace website.

Downside?

Not all their content is free, but there are still a number of good free resources.

Big White Wall

Who are they?

Big White Wall, a safe community to support your mental health.

What are they offering?

All staff and students at Edge Hill University have free access to the Big White Wall through the University. There’s an anonymous community where members can support each other 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There are trained professionals available 24/7 to keep the community safe, self-assessments and recommended resources, creative tools to help express how you’re feeling and a wide range of self-guided courses to do at your own pace.

How do I use it?

Access Big White Wall to create an account using your Edge Hill email address.

Downside?

None!

Joe Wicks

Who are they?

Joe Wicks, physical trainer based in London.

What are they offering?

Live PE classes at 9 a.m. every weekday. Don’t be put off by the name P.E., adults as well as children across the world have been challenged by and enjoying his workouts.

How do I use it?

All his workouts since 23rd March can be found on to his YouTube channel.

Downside?

None!

Psycle London

Who are they?

Psycle London – personal trainer.

What are they offering?

Multiple live workouts each day, from 15-minute booty blasts, to 45-minutes of barre, yoga classes, and HIIT as well.

How do I use it?

The workouts are posted onto the Psycle Instagram page.

Downside?

You will need an Instagram account to access it.

Peloton

What are they offering?

Try the Peloton app at home for free for 90 days — no bike needed!

How do I use it?

Create an account on onepeloton.co.uk and then download the app.

Downside?

After the 90 day free trial, you will need to pay £12.99 per month.

Better UK

Who are they?

Better UK (gym).

What are they offering?

Better UK is a free fitness app helps you stay healthy during coronavirus outbreak. The app is free to download for both Apple and Android devices and there you’ll find various activities to try at home, with new content due to be added shortly, tailored for older people and children, so that anyone can take part.

How do I use it?

Once you have the app, select any fitness centre and simply enter ‘BETTERFREE’ as the club access code to get started.

Downside?

None!

Wellbeing and counselling appointments

Who are they?

The Wellbeing and Counselling Team within the Student Services Team at Edge Hill.

What are they offering?

Telephone appointments are available to support students during this period.

How do I use it?

These can be booked either by emailing [email protected].

Downside?

None!

Fika Mental Fitness App

Who are they?

Fika is a mental health improvement platform evidenced to positively impact wellbeing and performance.

What are they offering?

Edge Hill have partnered with Fika during this COVID-19 period, enabling you to access Fika’s COVID-19 package for free.

How do I use it?

Download the Fika: Mental Fitness app, enter Edge Hill University as your organisation and create an account with your university email address. You will need to verify your account via an email (please check your junk emails).

Downside?

None!

Sam’s Circuits

Who are they?

Sam is part of the Health and Fitness team within Edge Hill Sport.

What are they offering?

Virtual fitness classes on Fridays at 6pm live on Facebook.

How do I use it?

You can find these classes, along with other fitness challenges and workouts on the Edge Hill Sport Facebook page.

Downside?

You will need a Facebook account.
