The Department of Sport and physical Activity has for the first time this year provided 90 of its third year students with an opportunity to undertake the accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England qualification to enhance both their academic studies and future employability prospects.
In doing so, Edge Hill became the first university in the UK to offer the qualification to its students and this has attracted attention from other departments in the university, from other universities in the UK and beyond (including Australia where the qualification is well established), and organisations in both the sport and health sector.
Given its commitment to students’ awareness of mental health, we are delighted to announce that the Department has been nominated, and now short-listed, for the MHFA Awards 2014, the results of which will be announced at the House of Lords on the 26th February 2014. Prof. Andy Smith will be representing the Department and the University at the award ceremony. To read more about this project, click here.
