Overview
The module is designed to create an opportunity for students to study a specific area of clinical practice to an appropriate depth using the principles of a tripartite agreement between the student, their employing organisation and the University.
A flexible approach to both content and assessment are the underpinning principles of this module, providing students with a range of choice commensurate with the level of study.

Who is this module for?
Student must be currently employed within an area of clinical practice.
What are the key aims of the module?
- Appraise an aspect of clinical practice with reference to the related literature to determine what is already known.
- Evaluate the potential implications and impact for clinical practice of themes that emerge from the literature.
- Formulate a series of clear, concise evidence-based recommendations or a realistic action plan, based upon the findings.
How will I study?
This module is workbased learning. Sessions will be arranged on an individual basis.
What will I study?
The content of this module will be negotiated between the student and the academic module tutor or programme lead according to need. It will as a minimum include:
- searching the literature
- using databases
- academic writing skills
- action planning
- formulating recommendations
- critical thinking
- critical appraisal skills
- report writing skills
How will I be assessed?
The blend of Work based learning and assessment will be managed flexibly through supervision which will be shared as a joint endeavour between the academic and representative in practice (ie the work place setting).
Students will be expected to have reached an agreement confirming the focus of their study by week 4 of the module. Students will be expected to have engaged with their employer in order to determine the specific area of focus and engage with ongoing dialogue with them as the module progresses. Assessment is a 4000 word report.

The intention is that on completion, students will have a tangible output, in the form of a Report, elements of which have the potential to be applied directly to their area of practice.
How to apply
Module availability varies from year to year and will be subject to minimum student numbers being achieved. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Due to the popularity of some modules it may be that the module is fully booked when your application is received. We will include your details on a waiting list and allocate you a place on the next available intake. This module runs once a year in September.
