“Studying at Edge Hill prepared me for my job at KWS in many ways.  It provided me with a great understanding of how a marketing company works which is essential in my current role.”

While studying for a Marketing and Public Relations degree at Edge Hill, Zoe Grimshaw attended one of Edge Hill’s Graduate Recruitment Fairs and was lucky enough to secure a graduate job with marketing agency KW Solutions, and she has never looked back.

Zoe’s role as Digital Marketing Assistant allows her to put everything she learnt at Edge Hill into practice.

“Since working at KWS I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my job. I experience different areas of work throughout the week and I love having the variety. Some days might involve a lot of search engine optimisation (SEO) work and another day might be more pay per click (PPC) orientated.

“Another aspect I particularly enjoy about my job is having a very diverse range of clients. A week of heavy content writing could involve writing about anything from rehabilitation services and financial issues to the processing and manufacturing industry. Working with so many different industries definitely keeps the job interesting. I also write quarterly reports explaining to clients what we are going to deliver based on data that we have analysed. I really enjoy learning about PPC advertising and having the opportunity to write social media for our clients.

“Studying at Edge Hill fully equipped me for a job in the marketing industry. Three years of academic writing made me feel confident when writing reports for clients, and I also felt like I could adapt quickly when it came to working towards deadlines and prioritising certain pieces of work.

“Likewise, I felt that I had a good understanding of how a marketing company works from certain modules in my degree.

“One of the most useful modules I completed taught me how write a professional CV, and I also had to complete a three week work placement which gave me a great insight into the marketing world.

“The University provided me with a high level of support throughout my degree, in particular my dissertation supervisor Pam Nicol, who was always available and more than happy to help when I needed that extra bit of guidance.

“For students looking to secure a graduate job, I would advise them to make good use of the facilities at Edge Hill by visiting the careers office with their CV to make it perfect. I would also encourage them to complete as much work experience as possible within the relevant industry, to prepare them for their career as well as enhancing their CV.

“My last piece of advice would be to be pro-active and attend graduate fairs and also give a great first impression, because you never know where your graduate job could take you.”
