The course has definitely helped shape me as an individual and enabled me to realise my ambitions.

“Edge Hill University is unique to me; I love its beautiful campus and how it has kept its heritage alive. Everything that students need can be found on campus and Ormskirk itself has a really welcoming feel.

I chose to study the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies because I am very passionate about working with children. For the past five years I have worked part-time at a children’s play barn which has really confirmed that I want a career working with young people.

Throughout my studies I have been eager to advance my knowledge and have learnt a great deal about the psychological and sociological theories of children. The modules around the sociology of children and families have particularly interested me, while the way the lecturers interact with us has made the whole learning process very satisfying.

Since a young age I have been interested in Disney and was delighted to have the opportunity to explore and analyse this for my dissertation, studying the construction and representation of families as portrayed by Disney over the decades.

Not only have I based my research on Disney, but once I graduate I’ll also be working for them. After a competitive selection process I have secured a position as a Youth Activities Counsellor on a Disney cruise liner. I’m really excited about embarking on what will be a life-changing experience.

The course has definitely helped shape me as an individual and enabled me to realise my ambitions. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about children and families and can honestly say the decision I made to be a part of Edge Hill University has proven to be an excellent one.”
