“I had wanted to be a teacher since I was little and thought I had missed the opportunity, but this course has given me the tools I need.”

“I am not new to teaching, having worked as a teaching assistant at a local school. However, I need a teaching degree if I am to progress professionally and Edge Hill University’s Fastrack access course was the starting point.

It was here I met my current tutors, Mike and Paul, who were really friendly and approachable, so afterwards it felt both comfortable and sensible to stay at Edge Hill for my degree. The three-year course also appealed as I have a little boy and want my teacher status and to start work as soon as possible.

Religion was my favourite subject at school so was the natural choice to study. Our class field trips have really brought the subject to life. They have given me a comprehension of how different people live their lives which is something I hope to convey once I am a teacher. The placements in schools have also been amazing and I have learnt so much (including to sleep and eat when on placement!).

The University itself provides a lovely environment in which to study, however, the people are what make this course special. It is a really supportive atmosphere. Tutors can be contacted easily, we use WhatsApp as well as email, and they have been really supportive when I have had ups and downs in my life. I am mildly dyslexic and the support I have received has been appreciated.

I had wanted to be a teacher since I was little and thought I had missed the opportunity, but this course has given me the tools I need to be a good, competent teacher. It has allowed me to shine, to be more, and to get where I want to be. The people who have inspired me, my old RE teacher and my family, are going to be proud.”
