Using real-life settings is very different to working on case studies and I find communicating with clients, implementing their requirements and knowing that a system I am working on will be used by thousands of people is very rewarding.

“After leaving school at fifteen with no academic qualifications and working in several unfulfilling jobs, I felt trapped and very unhappy. I knew I had skills to offer employers, but my scope was limited due to my lack of a formal education.

I was able to join my degree after completing Edge Hill University’s Fastrack programme and I’m really grateful to have had this opportunity. There’s no doubt that it’s changed my life and I’ve developed new skills and totally expanded my horizons.

My computing course not only develops the specific skills required for programming, web design and systems analysis, but also grows your understanding of time management, reflective skills and the ability to critically analyse.

I particularly gain a great deal of satisfaction when utilising the skills I learn on the commercial projects we take part in. Using real-life settings is very different to working on case studies and I find communicating with clients, implementing their requirements and knowing that a system I am working on will be used by thousands of people is very rewarding. This experience will give me significant professional experience and a solid reference, which is something I know employers value.

Overall, I’m very grateful to Edge Hill for giving me this chance to study. During my time here, as well as learning new skills, I’ve been able to use the abilities I knew I had but couldn’t previously put to use. I would definitely advise anyone who is in my position of not having the traditional GCSEs and A-levels to look into ways of studying for a degree like I did. It will change your life.”
