“On this course religion becomes a reality rather than something in a book.”

“To be honest, when I came to Edge Hill University for the open day and interview I had no idea what I was coming to see. My college tutor had recommended Edge Hill as she knew it specialised in teaching and that I could qualify in just three years. As soon as I arrived I thought, ‘wow, I love it!’ The campus itself was absolutely stunning, the people were really helpful and after meeting my course tutor I realised that it had to be this university.

My aim is to become an inspirational RE teacher and then head of department. However, I do not want to simply teach children to pass exams; I want to give them knowledge and this course is helping me achieve those goals. The practical training is key for me, as here they teach you how to teach. The placements in particular are really enjoyable. I have learnt a lot and staff at the school I visited even said I was an outstanding trainee.

The field trips are also excellent, especially the visit to a Buddhist centre in the Lake District. On this course religion becomes a reality rather than something in a book.

The classroom aspect of the course is also very good. I have always been into RE so being able to study all of the six major religions in depth has been great. There are really good relations between the tutors and students and I know I can always count on them all for advice and support.

It has been a big time sacrifice coming to Edge Hill; I did not want to move away from home so have a long commute every day. However, I love the University and the course is inspiring, so now I recommend it to people I know.”
