“I am proud to be an Edge Hill University graduate and am grateful for all it has given me.”

“I have really enjoyed my studies at Edge Hill University where, during my final year, I was approached by the Head of Computing to take part in the Barclays Technology Challenge. This involved intense problem solving and teamwork skills to enable BBC iPlayer videos to be paused on one device and resumed on another.

Originally I felt out of my depth as I leaned more towards the business side of my degree, however, the team was full of brilliant technology-minded people and we had very productive discussions to come up with an idea. As the task progressed I found I became the one who encouraged the team to discuss issues more thoroughly and in-depth, asking questions and adopting the perspective of the end user.

Once the challenge was complete, and having met Barclays’ staff and graduates during my course, I made the decision to apply for their Technology Centre Graduate Scheme. When I got the chance to visit their offices I immediately knew it was a place I wanted to be.

The feeling of inspiration and the amount of opportunities I saw motivated me to not only apply, but also to do everything in my power to secure a job there. The application process was very long, so when I discovered I’d secured a place I was ecstatic.”

Describe Edge Hill University in three words:

“My second home.”

“I am thankful to have entered the Challenge and it is great to work in an organisation where senior managers like Mark Heaney, Chief Operating Officer for Global Technology Infrastructure and Services, values the impact of such initiatives for myself and other graduates.

There is no doubt that Edge Hill has had such an impact upon my life and my ambitions. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am, or be as happy as I am today, without my time at the University. The tutors have been amazing and without them I really don’t think I would know about the wide range of career options available, or have the grades required to pursue my ambitions

I have many wonderful memories of the three years of my degree and have made many great friends too. I am proud to be an Edge Hill University graduate and am grateful for all it has given me.”
