Matthew Robinson

The course is great and provides really good opportunities to work with both current and revolutionary technologies.

“I’ve been interested in technology from a young age, always fascinated by how things work, so after studying computing at college I wanted to continue learning about the subject at degree level. Edge Hill University seemed the perfect place for me to do this and so I joined the BSc (Hons) in Computing (Application Development).

The course is great and provides really good opportunities to work with both current and revolutionary technologies. As well as this, it is great to learn from tutors who have a vast knowledge of the subject and plenty of experience from working in industry. They are always happy to help and provide feedback on our work really quickly, which is fantastic.

During my studies I was given the chance to work closely with the University’s Nao robot during the National Science and Engineering Week, when I programmed it to operate as a greeter at the World Museum in Liverpool. The robot welcomed visitors to the event, detected different objects, directed people to the correct galleries and danced to keep everyone entertained.

I feel that opportunities such as this are so worthwhile in terms of boosting my future employability, they show that alongside studying my course I have become fully involved with lots of other aspects of student life. Other things I have done have included becoming a student rep and mentoring the first year students, all of which I feel will enhance my prospects when it comes to looking for a job.

My goals for the future include continuing with my studies at Masters level and then either entering industry or setting up my own business. I really believe the skills and knowledge I have acquired on the course will enable me to achieve this.”
