Edge Hill University has been a great place to study with the high level of support and the experience of the tutors particularly standing out to me.

“I chose to study the MSc in Advanced Practice after applying for a new role due to a restructure. I am a speech and language therapist (SLT) in the NHS and although I was initially unsure of joining the programme because it doesn’t cover my specialism of paediatric dysphagia, I have found it to provide far more opportunities than I ever thought possible.

The programme has given me the time to reflect on the current NHS climate, the challenges within my department, and the role I can play in managing these challenges.

It had been ten years since I qualified as a speech and language therapist, so it was daunting to think about going back to studying and believe I was capable of doing this at Masters level. My fears were quickly eased by the knowledgeable and supportive staff who have always shown complete confidence in me.

Edge Hill University has been a great place to study with the high level of support and the experience of the tutors particularly standing out to me. Throughout the course I have benefited from a number of different people who have provided me with a wealth of information, support and real-life experiences.

I have also had the chance to meet and discuss issues with a wider range of professionals than I would have normally been able to speak to, enabling me to enhance my clinical skills and acquire a much deeper understanding of research, including critical analysis and interpretation. Above all, though, the course has made me realise that I still love to learn and what a valuable thing knowledge is.

To anyone who may have fears about returning to study I would advise them to go for it! I would also definitely recommend the Advanced Practice MSc to other SLTs, or any advanced health practitioner.”
