All throughout the course it is obvious that Edge Hill want you to succeed and they provide all the necessary support to help you get to where you want to be.

“I have always been interested in teaching and my studies at university gave me the confidence to pursue this as a career. Because of this I decided to undertake a PGCE in Further Education and training as my specialist subject, Media, Film and Television, isn’t widely taught in secondary schools.

I also chose this PGCE because I liked the fact that upon successful completion of the course you are able to obtain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status. To me this is perfect because I feel that as well as being qualified to teach in the further education sector I also have the option to explore employment in secondary schools.

I’ve found the placements you undertake as part of the course provide great experiences and are vital to gaining a wide range of skills. The tutorials and lectures are well structured and prepare you fully for your time on placement by giving you all the skills and confidence you will need.

In my opinion the personal tutors are the best thing about the course. My tutor has been in constant communication with me and has provided advice and guidance throughout my placement, always being on hand to answer any questions I may have about teaching. Many of the personal tutors have over 25 years’ teaching experience and I believe this has helped me to achieve.

I am pleased to say that I successfully applied for a position at a secondary school with a sixth form centre while completing the PGCE and have now started in the role.

The University sending emails detailing career opportunities made the whole process much easier and when I was offered a job before I completed the course they were extremely helpful in changing my teaching placement to be that of my new position.

All throughout the course it is obvious that Edge Hill want you to succeed and they provide all the necessary support to help you get to where you want to be.”
